When one mother first tried High Meadow lanolin cream on her teenage daughter's skin, she wasn't looking for anything fancy. It had been a rough winter, and nothing they'd tried so far had made much of a difference.

Ben Calkins, our founder, first noticed lanolin's gentleness more than 60 years ago. "I first thought lanolin must be good for skin when I noticed cuts on the sheep after shearing, and how quickly they'd heal up." That observation is really where this whole business started.
Lanolin's molecular structure is close to the oils your own skin already makes, which is part of why so many customers tell us it feels different from synthetic moisturizers that just sit on top of the skin.
"The difference was noticeable within days," one customer told us about her young son. "His skin looked calmer and smoother. We were glad to find something he actually liked using."
What customers tell us about aging skin
Other customers come to us for a different reason entirely: the dryness, fine lines, and loss of elasticity that often come with age.
"We do graze our sheep for as much of the year as we can," Ben explains. "It makes a real difference in the quality of the lanolin they produce." That pastoral approach is something we think about at every stage, from the field to the finished jar.
One customer told us she started using the cream on her hands because they were dry and cracked, and kept going from there. "Now I use it on my face too. People comment on my skin, and I'm 67 years old." Where it comes from
Everything we hear from customers comes back, in our minds, to how the lanolin itself is made. Our sheep graze freely across 52 acres of Ohio countryside, and we think that shows up in the quality of what we produce. "We spare nothing in terms of how we care for our sheep," Ben says.
That's different from a lot of large-scale lanolin operations, which prioritize volume over the conditions the animals are raised in. We can't promise our lanolin will outperform anyone else's for you personally. What we can say is that it's made the way we'd want it made if we were the customer, and that's the standard we hold ourselves to.
Sixty years in
"After 60 years of shepherding, I've learned that quality shows," Ben reflects. Every time a customer tells us they've found something that finally feels right for their skin, whether that's for dryness, for their hands, or just because they like how it feels, we're glad to have been part of that, one small batch at a time.
